Matt O’Connor, agent for change
political campaigner, communicator & cultural entrepreneur
Matt O'Connor is best known as the founding father and frontman of perhaps the most controversial and high profile pressure group of modern times. Denied access to his own two sons by the Family Courts, O'Connor decided to take on the legal system and the British Government with the creation of Fathers 4 Justice, the international campaign group which established the phrase "fathers' rights" as part of the political lexicon.
He is a regularly contributor about fathers issues and family breakdown on TV and Radio and is in demand as a public speaker at the Oxford Union, at business functions and at schools and universities across the country where Fathers 4 Justice is studied on the National Curriculum.
O’Connor brought the official Fathers 4 Justice campaign to a close in September 2008 and he is currently working on the launch of his own ‘subversive’ ice cream band in 2009.
However the shock waves from his provocative campaign are still being felt across the religious and political landscape. The Archbishop of York spoke about Matt O’Connor and his campaign in the House of Lords in the debate about the controversial Human Tissues and Embryology Bill in December 2007.
In November 2008 Conservative Leader David Cameron welcomed the opportunity to engage with O’Connor on social policy following his proposals to set up a helpline for families in breakdown and the conclusion of the Fathers 4 Justice campaign.nister.
