2012 is the Year of Creative Scotland and so The Albion Dinner programme will fittingly begin the year with Andrew Dixon, Chief Executive at Creative Scotland.
The Year of Creative Scotland 2012 is a chance to showcase, celebrate and promote Scotland’s cultural and creative strengths on a world stage. Through a dynamic and exciting year-long programme of activity celebrating our world class events, festivals and cultural strengths, the year puts Scotland’s culture and creativity in the spotlight.
Andrew Dixon will talk about the journey of Creative Scotland and the rallying call that has driven its transformation from Scottish Screen and Scottish Arts Council to the new outward facing investment agency.
He will ask how can Scotland become one of the most creative nations in the world, and how can we improve the packaging of Scotland's culture strengths? Andrew will also discuss ‘Scotland the Festival Nation’ and contemplate what brought Brad Pitt, Halle Berry and Scarlet Johansson to Glasgow last autumn and how did the Year of Creative Scotland advert get a screening on the BBC News at Ten on the day the campaign was launched?
Andrew Dixon started his career as administrator and youth projects director of the Major Road Theatre Company. After five years as an arts officer in Local Government he moved to Northern Arts, progressing to become its Chief Executive and was a member of the national executive team of Arts Council England for three years, before moving to his role promoting Newcastle Gateshead as a world-class place to live, work, learn and visit. Andrew has been Chief Executive of Creative Scotland since May 2010.
The first dinner of the year will take place at No.12 Picardy Place, the most innovative and urbane venue in Edinburgh. First opened in February 2011, Mark Greenaway’s signature restaurant at No.12 Picardy Place continues to attract public admiration as one of the most exquisite dining experiences in Scotland. Packed full of enthusiasm for modern Scottish dining, the seasonal menu highlights the quality of each individual dish, served in a casual, fine dining atmosphere.
The fine-dinning restaurant recently received the coveted three AA Rosettes, making Mark Greenaway at No.12 Picardy Place the only restaurant in Scotland to have been awarded the accolade.
