Winners from the hotly contested Marketing Society Golden Jubilee Awards for Excellence take the stage to deliver their cases to you, the audience, and a panel of expert marketers from this year’s judging panel.

The session will not only go through the winning cases but we will discuss the issues raised by the cases and the learning for the industry as a whole.

Presentations and Q&A will be followed by drinks and refreshments at 8.15pm.

Rick Vlemmiks

At British Gas Rick has been responsible for driving the brand into a more emotional space, launching the Planet Home campaign behind the new brand promise ‘Look After Your World with British Gas’.

Rick joined British Gas last year from HBOS where he was Head of Marketing across a portfolio of brands including Halifax, Bank of Scotland and Sainsbury’s Finance. Prior to this, Rick worked for Mars inc. where he took on a number of Commercial and Marketing roles across Europe, the US and the Far East on both Petcare and Confectionary brands.

Rick started his career at Rolls Royce as a management trainee. Following a desire to get into FMCG he then completed a Masters in Communication and joined P&G to work on Pampers in the UK. Rick also holds an MBA from London Business School and Columbia Business School in New York.

Peter Markey

Pete Markey is MORE TH>N Marketing Director, responsible for all above and below the line media as well as brand development, customer and digital marketing. Pete was previously MORE TH>N’s Head of Marketing for 2 years.

Prior to this, he was Onetel Head of Marketing for 3 years, helping effectively develop and re-position the brand in the highly competitive telecoms market.

Pete has also worked at the AA as Marketing Communications Manager, and before that in marketing comms and brand roles at British Gas.

Pete graduated from Southampton Solent University with a BA Hons in Corporate Communication and is a Chartered Marketer. He is currently studying for an MBA at Ashridge Business School.

Pete is 36 and lives in Surrey with his wife, son, aged 8 and daughter, aged 2. He enjoys cycling, roller coasters and is supporter of Portsmouth FC.

Chris Macleod

Chris Macleod
head of group marketing and communication, Transport for London

Chris has spent most of his career in Advertising and Marketing. Beginning at the agency Leagas Delaney in the 1980s, he went on to work at Saatchi & Saatchi (twice) and Collet Dickenson Pearce, eventually as Chairman.

After spells at McCann Erickson and running his own consultancy, he is now Head of Group Marketing at Transport for London. Here he is responsible for a diverse range of Marketing programmes for London’s largest advertiser. These include Oyster card, Road safety and promoting Cycling and Walking. Recent awards include Cannes Gold Lions, IPA Effectiveness and MCCA Best integrated campaign; TfL was Campaign magazine’s Advertiser of the year in 2008.

A Fellow and former chairman of the Marketing Society, Chris has a degree from Newcastle Business School, a Masters degree from the London School of Economics and is a regular on the Bakerloo Underground line.

Peter Rampling

Peter Rampling
Marketing Director, Telefonica O2 UK

Took a degree in Engineering & Business Studies. Joined BT in 1986 and did a variety of fixed Marketing roles culminating in being responsible for Consumer Acquisition and Retention. Moved into BT Wireless/Cellnet in 2000 and undertook various business and consumer marketing roles and so was a founder member of O2 when it launched.
