Ogilvy Day; Masterclass with Peter Fisk, Classic Cinema Advertising Showcase and Mad Men Cocktail Party – Business Networking, a marketing event

23 June 2011
1pm - 8pm
Filmhouse 1 and The Point Hotel, Edinburgh

Celebrate David Ogilvy’s birthday in style and be inspired with advertising insight from those in the know

David Ogilvy was born on 23 June 1911, the same day of the year his father and grandfather were born. Legend has it David’s father challenged him to also try for a son on this day – one of the many stories that surround him. Now, 100 years on, The Marketing Society is celebrating his life and legacy.

Ogilvy was very proud of his Scottish roots and education. He claimed it was this heritage that developed his passion for marketing effectiveness, as well as the craft of creative execution. He was also a great social animal, story teller and serial networker – wearing his kilt to cocktail parties ensured (like his advertising) that he stood out from the crowd. Ogilvy's golden era of advertising has recently been brought to life in the hit TV series – Mad Men.

On 23 June 2011, as part of the Edinburgh International Film Festival, The Marketing Society is planning three events that reflect Ogilvy’s passions.

1:00pm – 3:00pm Filmhouse 1, Edinburgh

1. Inspired Thinking: Marketing and the Movies Masterclass with Peter Fisk

Lights: how global and local markets have been transformed by economic crisis and technological change, and the new breed of game-changing brands.

Cameras: what it takes to build a great brand, to engage people more deeply, and drive profitable innovation in this world of new rules and opportunities.

Action: why Pixar can be a great inspiration for your business, applying their 15 steps to great movie-making to the challenges of building a successful brand.

3:30pm – 5:30pm Filmhouse 1, Edinburgh

2. Creativity and The Big Idea: Classic Cinema Advertising Showcase

Guest clients and agency creatives, including Gerry O’Donnell from The Famous Grouse and Gerry Farrell from The Leith Agency, have been invited to present their favourite cinema ads.
