Steve Radcliffe

Steve Radcliffe, leadership coach and new partner to The Marketing Society talks to Elen Lewis about singing, snoring and why we all need to pause and reconnect with what we really care about to become better leaders

What’s the best decision you’ve ever made?
That's easy. Marrying Sharron 26 years ago.

What’s the most valuable lesson you’ve learnt in your career?
The most important is, “It's all about people and relationships” - as brought alive yet again by the leaders speaking on last week's Marketing Leaders Programme.

What's your proudest achievement?
Helping raise three stonkingly great kids.

Who is your leadership hero and why?
At the moment, Obama. He's great at the future, he naturally engages, but will he deliver?

What does a bad leader look like?
One who's only in it for him or herself.

What single thing can we do today to become better leaders?
Pause, reconnect with what you care about, and be guided by that.

What's the best example of how good leadership can make a difference?
There are too many to mention, I see and hear of them every month in offices, schools, factories, hospitals...

If you could edit your past, what would you change?
I'd have sung a lot more.

What’s your worst habit?
The family are unanimous - my snoring! Though I'm proud to have won 'The Snoring Award' on Keith Weed's team trip to Lapland!

Who would you invite to your dream dinner party?
My guests for Come Dine with Me would be Derren Brown, Helen Mirren, Cheryl Cole and Bruce Springsteen.

What keeps you awake at night?
Even more ideas of what to create next.

What books are on your bedside table?
First Light, A Landscape Photographer's Art by Joe Cornish
1001 Natural Wonders you must see before you die by Michael Bright
